Campbellford

This blog will chronicle our (Pat and Patty Anderson's)
cruising adventures on the Great Loop!

DAY 97 - July 6, 2017

Trent-Severn looking north
in the early morning
Old Mill Park in Campbellford is a very popular spot on the Trent-Severn - it has walls on both sides of the Canal, with the longer wall on the west side, with 30 amp power pedestals and the shorter wall on the east side with 50 amp power pedestals.  According to Skipper Bob, it can be difficult sometimes to get a spot on the wall, so we left Lock 7 early. The Canal was very peaceful in the early morning light!

In Locks 11 & 12
We transited five locks, the last two, 11 and 12, being a "flight," which in this case means that you immediately enter Lock 12 upon exiting Lock 11.

Yesterday the Canal was mostly in a constructed channel but today it was in Trent River, and in fact, at some points it so wide it was almost like a lake, but it narrowed to a channel at the entrance to each lock. As we transited each lock, the lock keepers called ahead to the next lock, so it was usually open and ready for us! Since we had left Lock 7 before 9 a.m. when it opened, we were all alone at Lock 8, where they told us 7 boats were coming behind us. However, we got through all the locks without those boats catching up!

Daydream on the wall at Old Mill Park
When we got to Campbellford, there was lots of room on the west wall, and we picked our spot close to a power pedestal and tied up. We had planned to stay two nights here, but they have a pay for two and get the third night free deal, and there are a lot of events going on in Old Mill Park, so we will be staying through Saturday night and leaving for Hastings Sunday morning.

Boats on the west wall
Yacht on east wall
By late afternoon, the wall was mostly full! We went over to the drugstore and little supermarket on our side of the Canal for a little shopping, and enjoyed a nice dinner and quiet evening on-board. We looked at all the literature from the Chamber of Commerce and picked our spots for tomorrow's exploration of downtown Campbellford! Butter tarts from Dooher's Bakery, and some treats from the immodestly named World's Finest Chocolates Retail Outlet are definitely on the list!
