This blog will chronicle our (Pat and Patty Anderson's)
cruising adventures on the Great Loop!
DAYS 60 and 61- May 30 and 31, 2017
Pat and Mary |
We lived in New Jersey between 1970 and 1975 after returning from the Peace Corps. We both got jobs teaching in the Camden School District as ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers. I went on to law school at Rutgers Camden in 1972 but Patty continued teaching in the Camden School District as a first grade teacher at Bonsall Elementary. Mary Israelow was a kindergarten teacher at Bonsall, and Patty and Mary were good friends at Bonsall..We left New Jersey in 1975, so we had not seen Mary in 42 years, but we kept up through annual Christmas cards and letters. Despite not seeing each other for 42 years, they picked up their friendship right where they had left off!
Tuesday the 30th, we did a little sightseeing in Cape May, with lunch at the Cape May Brewery with tacos from the taco place next door. I thought this was probably the best, and most adventurous, brewery I have tried yet on the Loop. Belgians, sours, wilds, barrel aged - I had a flight - and they were all first class. The tacos weren't bad either! Even though it was raining, Mary grilled strip steaks for a steak, baked potato and salad dinner that beat the pants off what we usually eat on the boat!
Wednesday the 31st, we had planned to go to the Ocean City Boardwalk, re-provision and have a nice dinner out. The day actually got mostly consumed with my visit to a Walmart optometrist and getting a new pair of glasses at Lens Crafters. While Lens Crafters were making my glasses, we had a lunch at the Hamilton Mall Food Court and did our re-provisioning trip. Then we went to Smith Marina in Sommers Point for a great seafood dinner. That still left us time to go to the Ocean City Boardwalk, where we enjoyed Kohr's orange and vanilla swirl soft ice cream, and had a fun walk on the boardwalk!
